Our Worship ServicesAt Athens First, we seek to offer different opportunities of worship to meet the needs of a diverse community of believers. The two, main experiences of worship that are offered weekly are: FIRST LIGHT - This is a contemporary worship experience offered each week at 9:00 am in the Beasley Center, located across Bryan Street from the main building. This service features Christian Rock and Folk music as well as more traditional gospel songs performed by one of five bands using drums, guitars and keyboards. It is a very relaxed atmosphere that invites you to “come as you are.” TRADITIONAL – This service is held each Sunday at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. As the name implies, this service is more out of the historical background of Methodism and features hymns, choral anthems, solos, creeds and prayers. While it is more “formal” than First Light, it is still relaxed and the dress runs from suits and ties to slacks and jeans. HOLY COMMUNION – The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated often throughout the year. During the Seasons of Advent and Lent, it is offered twice each Sunday in Garth Chapel on a “come and go” basis. It is offered at other times of the year at both the First Light and Traditional services. Two of the most special services of the year are the Maundy Thursday Service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae held on the Thursday evening before Easter and the Christmas Eve Service of Holy Communion and Candlelight. We celebrate all the major religious festivals. Other special services are held throughout the year, including the Ash Wednesday Service of the Imposition of Ashes. |
