Moriah Christian Children’s Home Located in Dutton, AL in an interdenominational home for up to 10 abused, neglected or abandoned girls ages 8-18. In October, 3 women donated $50 in cleaning supplies and 30 hours cleaning/organizing. Ongoing needs: Thrift shop items to sell and feminine hygiene products. Contact person: Grethel Harlow – 232-2262 Trade Fair MarketplaceLocated at 817 Regal Drive, Huntsville, AL. is a nonprofit enterprise. Fair Trade means fair wages, improvment in quality of life through healthy and safe working conditions. A FUMC member donates approximately 8 hours/month as clerk. In November, 10 people donated 40 man hours to prepare 4 houses for winter weather.Contact person: Sanders Woodroof. Salvation Army Red Kettle DriveLocated in Athens, AL. In December, 40 people donated about 1,000 man hours and collected money for people in need. Contact people: Chris Hamilton and Anne Carter.Downtown Rescue Mission Holiday Meal Service Located in Huntsville, AL. Approximately 25 people donated 100 man hours serving meals on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Contact people: Billie and Bob Murphree. Salvation Army Christmas Angel TreeLocated in Athens, AL. 100 children received Christmas gifts averaging $100 per child. Contact people: Anne Carter and Chris Hamilton.Helping Hands Located at FUMC Athens, AL. Five men donated 20 man hours determining feasibility of house repair project. Contact person: John Cotten. Food Pantry VolunteerLocated at Limestone County Churches Involved,across the street from Athens First in Athens, AL. Ongoing assistance to the community in need. This project has an ongoing need for specific food items. Contact people: Dana Waldrop/FUMC and Pat Brewer, Director of LCCI/262-0671. FUMC provides volunteers on Fridays from 9am - 11am. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up on the former Food Pantry door located at our Belltower Entrance.
FUMC donated $ 2,622.83. Another donation for $500 was made for Special Projects as needed. Contact person: Jeanne Anderson. Big Brothers Big SistersLocated in Athens, AL. Ongoing Needs: Christian adults to mentor a child between the ages of 6 – 16 for one hour per week. One year commitment. Contact person: Roberta Ress.Families in NeedAthens, AL. Two families (10 children) failed to meet deadline for Christmas assistance programs and requested help from the Missions Committee. 10 children received clothes/toys for Christmas totaling approx. $1,000 that was provided by members of FUMC Emmaus Reunion Group. Contact Person: Roberta Ress.Crisis Services of North Alabama Serves loval women during times of crisis/abuse. Hope Place is a local shelter where these women can go for refuge. Ongoing needs: phone cards, gift cards, monetary donations, diapers, deoderant, 2t-5t clothing for boys and girls, etc. Contact Person: Donna Cotten. Hospice of Limestone County Is a nonprofit organization that assists families and patients with terminal illness. Contact Person: Billie Murphree. Habitat for Humanity Is an international organization with a local agency. FUMC members have been active in Women Build and Apostle Build. $3,000 is budgeted for this organization annually. Edwin Hodges Ministry Adult Sunday School curriculum is recycled to foreign countries. Contact person: Peggy King. Kairos Prison MinistryMinisters to inmates at Limestone Correctional Facility.
